The Wildlands - Music Video

Hi! It’s been a while since I had a music video to share.

I took a little time off in October after the album release, but I’m back with a new music video for you today!

The Wildlands is a track from my newest album, Dawn’s Light: An Octopath Traveler II Harp Collection.

It’s a sleepy and gentle rendition depicting the canyons and badlands at night.

When I sat down to arrange The Wildlands for the harp, at first I tried to do something with the day version and the guitar part was just so unwieldy I changed track entirely and went for the night version instead.

Then in the performance it became all about trying to get the smoothest, fullest, gentlest sound I could out of the harp.

I remember that being a bit of a challenge because I recorded it at the tail end of winter and my dry fingers kept squeaking on the strings haha, but after a lot of practice I was able to get a pretty clean sound!

For me, The Wildlands at night always conjures up the first verse of "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor:

There is a young cowboy, he lives on the range

His horse and his cattle are his only companions

He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons...

...And as the moon rises, he sits by his fire

Just thinking about women and glasses and beer

And closing his eyes as the dogies retire

He sings out a song which is soft but it's clear

Just as if maybe someone could hear

I hope you can hear that same image of a lonely evening under the stars, surrounded by nothing but canyons as far as the eye can see.
